A Nebraska couple, newly married, found themselves becoming parents sooner than expected when their daughter, Mira, was born.

She was born four months premature, less than two weeks after their wedding. Born at just 22 weeks and five days, Mira weighed only 1 lb., 3 oz.

Her father, Ben Urbach, described the little baby as resilient, while Dr. Mark Brisso, neonatologist and medical director at the NICU at Bryan Medical Center, explained that given her gestation and weight, Mira’s chances of survival were less than 50%.

Despite the early arrival of their daughter, Urbach reported that she is progressing well in the NICU, according to People.

Urbach, 36, and his wife Sara, 26, who met on Tinder in 2020, had wed on January 13. While the pregnancy initially came as a surprise, they decided to proceed with their planned wedding.

Everything was fine,” Urbach recounted. “Nothing was too challenging,” he added.

Urbach explained that Mira’s premature birth occurred unexpectedly when his wife started dilating prematurely. Despite efforts to wait and see, Mira needed to be delivered. She was born around 8 p.m. on the night of January 25.

The unexpected premature birth of baby Mira not only surprised the couple but also made history as one of the earliest births recorded in Nebraska, as reported by ABC affiliate KETV and CBS affiliate KOLN.

Despite the early arrival, Urbach reported that Mira has been making significant progress in the weeks following her birth. According to her doctor, she is currently receiving ventilation and nutritional support.
