Ghanaian singer Moliy made history after her debut performance at the BET Awards 2025 Red Carpet Live! Preshow.

She became the first Ghanaian artist to perform at the BET Awards after delivering a masterpiece performance with her hit song “Shake it to the Max” during the Red Carpet Live! preshow at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 9.

Joined by collaborator Silent Addy, her performance wasn’t just about entertainment but also served as a proud moment for Ghana’s music. Fans back home and across the diaspora have celebrated her feat, with many recognizing the fact that this could open more doors for Ghanaian artists to shine on the international stage.

Since its inception in 2001, the BET Awards has been celebrating Black entertainers all across the world. Winning an award or a nomination or performing at the event is such a big deal for many musicians.

Ghana has so far won two BET awards, with Stonebwoy and Sarkodie in the category of Best International Flow and Best International Act.

All in all, about 10 Ghanaian artistes have had nominations at the BET awards including Kojo Antwi, Black Sherif, MzVee, Kwesi Arthur, Camidoh and Fuse ODG.

Kevin Hart hosted this year’s BET Awards, which took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday.

Jamie Foxx had an emotional night accepting the Ultimate Icon Award at the ceremony. In his address, the 57-year-old actor, comedian, and singer fought back tears as he gave thanks to God for granting him a “second chance” after his health crisis in April 2023.
