A 36-year-old Atlanta mother was fatally shot in the head after a neighbor’s gun accidentally went off while he was cleaning it, ABC13 reported. Police said the tragic September 26 incident occurred while the victim, identified as Carlether Foley, was sleeping.
Her body was found by her 17-year-old son. And authorities said a bullet hole was found in the apartment’s wall in the aftermath of the incident. Foley’s neighbor, Maxwell Williamson, told the police his firearm accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it. He said he forgot the weapon was loaded.
The 22-year-old suspect is currently being held without bond on involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct charges. “I’ve never experience the hurt, the pain that I’m feeling. I don’t know what to do,” Foley’s mother, Jacquline, said. “You had no right to take my baby from me. You had no business taking her life away from her child. He’s 17 years old. This is his last year in school. You have hurt my family. You have took my baby.”
Foley’s son, Keyandre, has since moved to Texas to stay with Jacquline. “It don’t feel real. I found my mama by myself,” Keyandre said. “I just don’t get it. I don’t understand. She don’t bother nobody. My mama didn’t do nothing.”
The victim’s brother, George Foley, also told the news outlet they’re making arrangements to transport her body back to Texas for a befitting burial. “We’re not doing well,” George said. “This has really hit us. It hit the whole, whole family. We just can’t believe it.”
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been set up to help raise funds to cover Foley’s funeral. The account also said any surplus amount from the donations will be used for Keyandre’s “future educational expenses.”
