Billy Humphrey and his wife Eve, a couple from New Jersey, welcomed a set of remarkable twin sons on New Year’s Eve and Day.

Billy Humphrey, who also turned 36 on New Year’s Eve, told Good Morning America, “I was very excited [about] the potential of having my boys on my birthday. We went in that day and I wasn’t quite sure if they’re going to come today or not, but having one of them at least on my birthday was a huge blessing and a gift.”

The 34-year-old new mother revealed that she had gone to Virtua Voorhees Hospital in Voorhees, New Jersey, the day before but had been sent home due to a false alarm; nonetheless, she returned the next day after her water broke.

The biology professor recalled telling her husband, “ ‘Happy birthday. I think I have to go to the hospital.'”

On Sunday night, she went into labor and gave birth to her first child, Ezra, at 11:48 p.m. on December 31 and his fraternal twin, Ezekiel, at 12:28 a.m. on January 1. This meant that, despite being twins, the boys were born on different days and years.

Eve Humphrey expressed that it was a good experience, saying,  “It was cool pushing out a baby while everyone’s counting down and saying ‘Happy New Year’ and, you know, it was like they had a birthday party.”

“I’m grateful everyone was healthy and things went pretty smoothly. So that’s the best thing you can ask for, especially because they’re a little bit early and everything, that they’re doing fine and I’m fine,” she remarked.

Just a few days after reaching the 36-week mark, Ezra and Ezekiel, who were born weighing 6 pounds and 4 pounds and 15 ounces, respectively, arrived earlier than their scheduled birth date of January 26.

Despite having a family history of twins, the young parents were a bit taken aback when they learned they would be having twins a few months ago.

Billy Humphrey, who is also a pastor, shared, “It was kind of difficult to take in for a little bit. They’re like, ‘We’re gonna have twins. OK. Alright. What does that mean? What does that look like?’ So, it was a lot of information to take in. Definitely glad she FaceTimed me. I probably would have thought she was trying to play some prank on me or something.”

The Humphreys, now parents of three sons, said their twins are “doing great.” Eve Humphrey observed that “They already have very different personalities, and they look different from the get-go,” noting that Ezra appears to be more calm while Ezekiel is more energetic.

Billy Humphrey joked, “[I’m] looking forward to sharing birthdays together and celebrating together and everything that looks like.”

Interestingly, on January 3, Hezekiah, the older sibling of the twins, turns 3.
