Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah will direct the fourth installment of the Captain America film franchise for Marvel Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who takes up the shield as the next Captain America, following the storyline of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Onah is well known for directing the popular Netflix sci-fi thriller The Cloverfield Paradox and the social thriller Luce. The Nigerian American recently co-wrote Samo Lives, a biopic on the life of Haitian Puerto Rican artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Onah is also scheduled to direct the college admissions thriller Bad Genius, as stated by Ebony.com.

Born in Markurdi, Nigeria, Onah lived in various places around the world because of a diplomat parent before settling in the United States, The Hollywood Reporter said.

He first gained recognition as a filmmaker while a student at NYU when his thesis movie was executive produced by Spike Lee.

There are reports that Malcolm Spellman, the creator and head writer of Winter Soldier, is writing the fourth “Captain America” film with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the show.
