Nike has honored Kobe Bryant with a mural in downtown Los Angeles ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

The artwork, which caught the eye of many on Kobe’s birthday, August 23, celebrates his legendary basketball career and deep connection with the city, as Kobe continues to inspire rising NBA athletes and basketball players around the world.

The 2028 Olympics will be the third time Los Angeles hosts the prestigious quadrennial sporting event, following the 1984 edition, which exceeded expectations and had a major financial impact for the host nation.

According to a Marca report, Kobe advocated for the Olympics to return to LA when he was alive. With the city now set to host the 2028 Olympics, his memory is being honored in recognition of his dedication to the city during his time playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nike unveiled the mural in downtown LA to commemorate Kobe’s legacy as a five-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist.

The mural, located near the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and Hotel Figueroa, includes the phrase “No Time to Lose,” signifying Bryant’s determination to make a difference and continually win as a player.

These words also serve as inspiration for the new generation and the Los Angeles community, renewing his presence in the hearts and minds of many in the years to come.

Kobe once said, “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do”, and this mural serves as a reminder of his commitment to impacting the lives of others.

Nike and the NBA are also bringing back their popular Air Time stream, now in its third installment, in connection with this remarkable tribute.

The Air Time stream will merge basketball culture with Nike’s innovative flair, creating an interactive experience for many. It will also showcase Nike products, provide insights from athletes and coaches on the Nike-NBA partnership, and spotlight some of Bryant’s most iconic moments on the court.

Fans tuning in will also have the opportunity to participate in Kobe-themed trivia and enjoy additional surprises. The event will be hosted by a rotating team, including New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, NBA 2K TV host Alexis Morgan, and Jamiersen Green.

Kobe passed on along with his daughter Gianna and seven others in a tragic helicopter crash four years ago, but his memory lives on, and the recent exploits of the US men’s national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics saw them bring home the gold medal relating to all his jersey numbers in his playing days.

This mural is also gaining traction on Kobe’s birthday, and the world of sport is sure to remember his impact as the next Olympics beckons.
