Nine nursery rhymes you probably didn’t realize were racist

Oh! Susanna

I jumped aboard the telegraph,

And trabbled down the riber,

De lectric fluid magnified,

And killed five hundred n*gger

The song is about an African-American slave who is believed to be dumb and doesn’t understand the concept of temperature or geography. He was from Alabama and was on his way to see his girl in Louisiana. Written by Stephen Foster, the song was sung in minstrel shows in the 1840s.
