Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s daughter, Olympia, might have a future in sports but her parents are prioritizing her getting paid well for it first.
Speaking at ADWEEK’s Brandweek conference on September 23, Reddit co-founder Ohanian, 41, gave his take on whether his 7-year-old daughter Olympia might become a professional athlete.
“We were watching the final of the World Cup in 2019 from our rented house in Wimbledon,” Ohanian remembered. “Olympia was running around in her Alex Morgan jersey, and I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if she played on a national team one day?’”
“And Serena was like, ‘Not until they pay her what she’s worth.’ And I was like, ‘Touché, okay, challenge accepted.’ And that’s what motivated me to buy a team and help be a part of the change.”
Ohanian co-founded the Angel City Football Club in 2020. His wife Williams and Olympia are also co-owners, which made the 7-year-old the youngest co-owner in professional sports history.
Ohanian and Williams are parents to daughters Olympia, 7, and Adira, 12 months. In early September, Ohanian shared photos on Instagram from his New York City trip with Olympia. The duo enjoyed a play, visited Milk Bar, and spent time at the American Girl Store.
In his Instagram caption, Ohanian reflected on how quickly his older daughter is growing, sharing, “Beautiful weekend with our SEVEN-year-old Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. ???? My heart is full.”
“We got to celebrate the final days of being six in Papa’s birthplace. ???? @olympiaohanian your mama and I love you more with every passing year. My life changed September 1, 2017 ???? thank you,” Ohanian wrote.
