Ghana To Ban Sale of Skin Bleaching Products in August

In May, Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) issued a statement pledging to ban the import of skin bleaching products in the country. The organization said the move was aimed at eliminating cancer-causing chemicals within the Ghanaian market.

“From 2017, the acceptance of skin lightening products is going to be Zero,” Ghana’s FDA spokesperson, James Lartey, said.

The use of skin bleaching products in Ghana, in particular, and Africa, in general, is on the rise, especially among celebrities. Experts say this trend is part of the mental colonization that many Africans are suffering from decades after acquiring independence.
