The Planters Plantation

In October, Cameroon picked director Eystein Young’s “The Planters Plantation” as its submission to the best international feature category at the 2023 Oscars. After two previous submissions in 1980 and 2016, this is Cameroon’s third consecutive year submitting to the Academy (followed by Enah Johnscot’s The Fisherman’s Diary in 2020 and Ngang Romanus’s Hidden Dreams in 2021). The Planters Plantation might be eligible for the Best International Feature category. This film depicts a young woman battling to maintain the property her father inherited from his white owner during independence on a West African plantation in the 1960s. BGC Melody Story, Extrafix Media, and Inn Amore are the producers.
