Former U.S. Postal Service (USPS) worker Nakedra Shannon, 30, was given a prison sentence Thursday for her involvement in a conspiracy that led to the theft of checks totaling millions of dollars in Charlotte over a three-month period.

According to WBTV, federal judicial officials said that the former mail processing clerk collaborated with two other people, Desiray Carter and Donell Gardner, to steal checks between April and July 2023.

According to a press release obtained by Fox4 News, Shannon stole the checks and then slipped them on to Carter and Gardner, who sold them through the Telegram channel, OG Glass House.

Officials said the perpetrators stole checks totaling more than $24 million.

The release added,  “[The total] includes over $12 million in stolen checks that were posted for sale on the Telegram channel OG Glass House and more than $8 million in stolen U.S. Treasury checks. The defendants obtained hundreds of thousands of dollars in criminal proceeds of the mail theft scheme.”

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, the defendants pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of government property. They were ordered to pay $113,333.87 in restitution, both together and separately.

According to the press release, the U.S. Attorney King thanked the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, IRS-Criminal Investigation, the U.S. Department of Treasury Bureau of the Fiscal Service, the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service “for their investigation of the case.”
