Real Housewives of Potomac star Gizelle Bryant and award-winning rapper Eminem are currently at odds with each other because of a trademark dispute.
It now appears their dispute has gone beyond the courthouse as Bryant, 54, told PEOPLE during an April 27 interview that her children actually turn off the radio when Eminem’s music comes up.
“Oh my God, no. And it’s funny, because if it comes on the radio, in the car, my kids would be like, ‘That’s Eminem. Turn it,’” Bryant, who has three daughters, said at the the Love Hotel Premiere Screening in Bel-Air. “My kids are on top of it. They know. No, no Eminem for us.”
In December 2023, Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, filed a lawsuit against Bryant and her former RHOP cast member Robyn Dixon. The trademark dispute stems from Bryant and Dixon naming their podcast and its related merchandise, Reasonably Shady. Eminem, 52, also goes by the moniker “Slim Shady.” He also has projects with “Slim Shady” included in the album titles.
“I find it to be foolishness. I want it to be over, for sure,” Bryant said in reference to the trademark dispute. Regardless of the ongoing legal dispute, Bryant said their podcast is still going strong.
“Reasonably Shady, it’s still up and running,” she said. “And we’re like 10 million downloads strong in our fifth season.”
“The Eminem lawsuit is still going,” Bryant added. “We’re at the tail end, but you have to understand, it’s like a Patent and Trade issue, and they have their own timeline for when it’s over. So we’re on their timeline.”
She continued: “Next step is for him to be deposed. And so, we’ll see what happens from there.” Despite not being Eminem fans, Bryant told PEOPLE that she and her kids have no qualms with Dr. Dre, who is Slim Shady’s longtime collaborator.
Eminem, in an initial protective order that he requested against Bryant and Dixon, had claimed that being deposed was going to be “unduly burdensome” because of his “limited knowledge of the subjects at issue.”
His manager Paul Rosenberg, however, made himself available for deposition, claiming that though the SHADY marks are affiliated with Eminem, the rapper is “removed from the daily activities and details that comprise” their “use and promotion.”
But in a September 2024 interview with In Touch Weekly, Bryant and Dixon’s lawyers stated that “Mr. Mathers’ deposition is critical in determining ownership, validity of rights, state of mind that pertains to fame, along with actual confusion issues, and current use.”
