Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) slammed President Donald Trump as “really psychotic” after he declared that the U.S. would gain control of Greenland “one way or another.”

“I don’t even know why we’re fighting with Greenland,” Crockett said in an interview with Adam Mockler of the progressive MeidasTouch Network after Trump’s Tuesday address to Congress. “We’re fighting with Canada, we’re fighting with Mexico—yet we’re in love with Putin? What is happening? This is not America. This is a terrible nightmare. Somebody slap me and wake me the fuck up because I’m ready to get on with it.”

During his speech, Trump claimed to support Greenland’s right to self-determination and suggested it could voluntarily join the U.S. But his tone quickly shifted.

“We need [Greenland] for international world security, and I think we’re going to get it,” he said. “One way or the other, we’re going to get it.”

Trump reportedly first floated the idea of acquiring Greenland—an autonomous Danish territory—during his first term, though little came of it. Since winning reelection, he has doubled down, calling it an “absolute necessity” and even suggesting a military takeover if necessary.

His administration appears serious about the effort. In January, Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted the push “is not a joke” and framed Greenland’s acquisition as a matter of U.S. national interest.

Denmark, however, has firmly rejected the notion. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen dismissed the idea outright, stating that Greenland “is not for sale.” Danish politician Anders Vistisen was even more blunt, telling Trump to “fuck off.”

Greenland’s own leadership also made its stance clear. Prime Minister Múte Egede told Fox News that while he welcomes strong cooperation with the U.S., “we don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be a part of the U.S.”

Crockett has been vocal in her criticism of Trump, recently calling him an “enemy” of the U.S. following his contentious White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The meeting, which included Vice President J.D. Vance, reportedly erupted into a shouting match when Zelenskyy pushed back against Trump’s stance on military aid.

Crockett took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her outrage.

“How dare a draft-dodging dumb dupe humiliate an ally and berate an actual brave man who has actually been on a battlefield for his people?!” she wrote. “Let me say this to the WORLD—I am sorry that the bright light America used to be is dimming.”

During a follow-up interview with MSNBC’s Alex Witt, Crockett doubled down, calling Trump a direct threat to national security.

“We have someone occupying the White House who, as far as I’m concerned, is an enemy to the United States,” she said, warning that Trump’s actions—such as weakening oversight, sidelining nuclear watchdogs, and relying on Elon Musk for key defense infrastructure—are undermining the country’s security.

She also blasted the criticism Zelenskyy faced over his military fatigues, noting that if he wore expensive suits, critics would accuse him of misusing aid.

“When you’re at war, you’re not worried about your outfit,” she said. “That is what we call a privilege.”

Crockett ended her remarks with a stark warning about Trump’s alliances.

“This is a no-win situation when you’re dealing with someone who has decided to align himself with a dictating thug.”
