Tory Lanez’s streak of recording “Prison Tapes” has ended after prison guards at California Correctional Institution confiscated his studio equipment. The rapper, who is serving time for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, had been using his time to work on his music.

Recent releases under the “Prison Tapes” banner, including tracks like “Basement” and “Appellate Court,” have boosted Lanez’s record sales.

However, his legal team, led by Ceasar McDowell of Unite the People, confirmed that prison officials have confiscated Lanez’s recording equipment, citing strict rules against inmates having such devices, as reported by TMZ on Monday.

Lanez’s team awaits news on potential further consequences following the confiscation of his recording equipment. For now, fans will have to enjoy the songs he managed to release while also joining the advocacy for the return of his seized recording equipment.

In a prison phone call posted to his Instagram on July 24, Lanez revealed that he and his engineer have found a way to record high-quality music over the jail phone, as reported by Hollywood Unlocked.

He exclaimed, “This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It’s crazy!” despite numerous setbacks and challenges.

He continued, “That being said, I’m about to start dropping hot heaps of coal on y’all head top. I’m dropping the all new ‘Free Tory’ playlist – it’s gon’ be updated every week with new music that I’m recording from prison in real time. This is the first of its kind and although God has already shown me that this moment is only temporary, it speaks testimony to the fact that no matter where they put me they can’t lock down my spirit, my ambition, my soul my passion nor my destiny!”

On July 25, Lanez released two new tracks, “Cell 245” and “Wish I Never Met You.” “Cell 245” begins with an automated prison phone message and features Lanez reflecting on his past troubles and the consequences of his success. In the song, he raps about the impact of violence on his life, including finding guns at his grandmother’s house.

The second track, “Wish I Never Met You,” also starts with a prison call recording and showcases Lanez’s softer, more vulnerable side.

He sings about a toxic relationship, expressing regret with lyrics like, “I can’t lie, I just wish I’d never met you in the first place.” The track’s production and sound quality impressed fans, attracting hundreds of comments.
