Liberia Herald (1826) – Liberia

The Liberia Herald is the second known black-owned newspaper in Africa. It was started by Charles Force, an African American who returned to Liberia, settled and established one of the most powerful and influential families in Liberia. Although Charles died shortly after the release of the first issue, the paper was revived in 1829 by John B. Russwurm, the founder of the first African-American journal who settled in Liberia.
