Louie Gohmert of Texas

Gohmert said he voted no because he felt lynching “is too serious to be handled at such a low level.”

According to him, per the Houston Chronicle, he’s troubled with “the federal nexus of lynching” and that the bill “sends entirely the wrong message about serious this is.”

For him, if it was under Texas law, the defendants could have gotten the death penalty.
