Six forms of birth control that were successfully used in medieval Africa

Acacia plant and honey

Acacia and honey

In 16th century BCE, Egyptians were documented as using unripe acacia fruit, honey and grounded dates as a form of birth control.

The aforementioned would be formed into a paste then applied to cotton. The cotton would be inserted into the vagina.

The active ingredient was the acacia; it would ferment into lactic acid.

Lactic acid was a known spermicide.
