Snoop Dogg has announced that he is “giving up smoke.” He disclosed this in a brief statement on Instagram on Thursday, telling his fans that he made this decision “after much consideration and conversation with my family.”
“Please respect my privacy at this time,” he wrote alongside a black-and-white picture of himself.
Fans were shocked to hear about Snoop’s announcement. “Never thought I’d see the day‼️” one user wrote in the rapper’s Instagram comments.
“Didnt have this on my 2023 bingo card / I hope Snoop finds success on his path to quitting ?,” another wrote.
Snoop was honored with the Clio Cannabis Awards’ Lifetime Achievement distinction in 2020 for his work with cannabis. He is behind the Merry Jane brand and Leafs by Snoop line.
Some fans believe this is a fake announcement in preparation for the launch of another cannabis business.
Snoop has been well known for his love for weed, and there were even reports that he smoked between 75 and 100 blunts per day, which he denied.
In 2019, he called on lawmakers to consider a “minority clause” amid the calls for marijuana to be legalized across the country.
“I think there should be some sort of minority clause, the way that they do in sports with the NBA and the NFL, where they make certain rules where the minority has to get the first dibs,” he said during a Revolt Summit panel in LA.
