NBA star Stephen Curry has addressed the unusual nickname he earned during the 2024 Paris Olympics known as ‘The Devil’ in France, and insists that he will not be adopting the name.
Known for his remarkable performances at the quadrennial competition, Curry was dubbed “The Devil” by fans and broadcasters, a moniker he finds amusing but refuses to embrace according to a Sports Illustrated report.
Curry, 36, was a standout for Team USA alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant, helping the team secure gold in a dominant fashion.

Their victory over France in the final, coupled with Curry’s elite play, left fans in awe, and the nickname “The Devil” was coined every time he shot the ball to claim points for his nation.
Reflecting on the Paris Olympics, Curry discovered the nickname while watching the highlights of his games on French broadcasts. During an interview on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’, Curry laughed off the title, expressing his decision to reject it, although it has a thrilling meaning.
“They did. They literally did,” Curry said. “I watched a lot of the highlights from it, and the French broadcast was hilarious. They said, ‘The devil Curry. The devil Curry does it again.’ Wow. I will not be adopting that nickname, though.”
Curry also discussed his signature celebration, the “night night” gesture, which became a viral sensation throughout the tournament. It even made its way onto his Team USA uniform after their gold medal win, and he hinted that he might officially trademark the move.
“That’s good. Oh, yeah, absolutely. ‘Nuit Nuit’—it’s a nice touch,” Curry said.
Curry’s incredible summer didn’t end with only an Olympic gold medal. Following his standout performances in Paris, he signed a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, securing his place with the team through the 2026-27 NBA season.
