Tanzania is set to make history as the first Sub-Saharan African country to introduce The Ritz-Carlton brand as part of its tourism growth stories, The Citizen reported on Wednesday.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC is an American multinational company which operates the luxury hotel chain known as The Ritz-Carlton. A century ago when the Ritz-Carlton brand began operations, it revolutionized hospitality in the United States by bringing elements of luxury to a hotel setting for the first time, its website says.
Today, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, which is part of Marriot International, has more than 100 luxury hotels and resorts in 30 countries and territories with over 29,000 rooms and more on the way.
Presently, only Morrocco and Egypt have the brand in Africa, according to The Citizen.
Currently, the key players responsible for developing the brand in Tanzania are not known but citizens are excited about the project as it would boost the country’s tourism.
Some media reports in the country believe that The Royal Tour shot by President Samia Suluhu which showcased the beauty of Tanzania to the U.S. and across the world could have influenced this development in the country.
Last year, Tanzania earned $3.4 billion from travel receipts after receiving over 1.8 million tourists. The tourism ministry projects that the figure could rise to $6 billion by 2025 as it expects five million tourists.
This latest Ritz-Carlton report comes after Tanzania gifted land to Idris Elba to build Africa’s biggest film studio.
