Rapper Wiz Khalifa took to social media on Friday to announce the passing of his father, Laurence W. Thomaz. Per TMZ, Thomaz was 63.

“Today my father decided not to wake up. I will always love him, miss him and be greatful for the things he taught me,” Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, wrote on X. “He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever Laurence W. Thomaz.”

In another post, Wiz stated that “the last conversation i had with my dad was him telling me how proud of me he was for the movie i was in and I promised him i would do more. LT Forever.”

The We Dem Boyz rapper, however, did not disclose the cause of his death. Wiz’s father served in the military, and they had a close relationship. In a previous interview with NME, the 38-year-old said that his father set up a recording studio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, during his childhood. He said that made him who he is today.

“I lived in that studio. And that’s what turned me into who I am today,” he said.

Following the announcement of his father’s death, Wiz received an outpouring of support on social media.

“A father’s pride is the strongest fuel for a son’s ambition,” a user wrote. “You aren’t just acting for the screen anymore; you’re acting for the man watching from the front row in heaven. LT Forever.”

“You da man Cam. Your father watched you grow and evolve numerous times. Im sure that brought unmeasurable joy to his heart. Condolences. Keep winning for him and your family,” another user wrote.

After reposting some of the condoling messages, Wiz expressed his gratitude for the support that came his way.

“Thank you all for your kind words. It really means a lot in this tough time and is helping me feel better,” he wrote.

“My father’s passing was sudden but seeing how many people love and respected him makes happy and i know he’s proud that he left a positive impact on this earth. Literally all he ever wanted,” Wiz wrote in another post.
