The Global Hunger Index is a report that highlights the status of hunger in the world.

The 2018 edition of the index, published jointly by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe, indicates a mixed result in the status of hunger in the world. In one part, there has been a reduction of hunger since 2000; however, other parts of the world experienced worsening hunger and increased undernutrition.

According to the report, approximately 124 million people suffer acute hunger, an increase from  80 million in 2016. Africa and South Asia have posted the highest rates of hunger, which have been exacerbated with climate change and conflict. The 2018 status of hunger in the world has also been affected by migration, which is both the cause and effect of hunger.

Here are the top 5 African countries with the highest rates of hunger.
