In October 2015, Morocco announced the plastic bag ban, which came to effect on July 1, 2016. The ban was part of a move by North African countries to go green.
Unlike many countries, Morocco set up a $20million fund to support the companies affected by the ban , thus saving the workforce.
However, in 2018, Morocco authorities seized three tonnes of plastic bags in Tangier.
