Awut Deng Acuil

This November, it was announced that a woman will for the first time chair the governing body of a university in South Sudan. Awut Deng Acuil, who is currently the Minister of General Education and Instructions, will chair the council of the University of Bahr El-Ghazal established in 1991, BBC reported.

Achuil’s appointment was announced in a presidential decree that was read on the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, the national broadcaster, the report added.

Achuil, before becoming the General Education and Instructions minister, was also the first woman to serve as the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
