Nathan Bedford Forrest, Tennessee

In December 2017, the statue of  Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general and leader of the Ku Klux Klan was pulled down in Memphis.  It was removed together with a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

However, the lawmakers in Tennessee have stripped Memphis of a quarter a million dollars as punishment for this removal.

Two months before the removal of Forrest’s and Davis’s statues, a sign at the Ryman Auditorium reading ‘1897 Confederate Gallery‘ was quietly removed.  The sign had been put up to commemorate the reunion of Confederate veterans.
