A memorial fountain to Confederate soldiers that has been in a public park since 1916 was pulled down in August 2017 after it was considered a threat to public safety following the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The removal came after the Native American lawmakers in Montana requested the city in a letter to remove it as stood for racism, slavery and segregation.
