A legend by all standards, Michael Jordan is arguably the greatest NBA star of all time.
Born on this day in 1963 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Jordan always had an interest in sports from a tender age. This drive pushed him into a number of sports including football, basketball, and baseball while he attended school at Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington.
His big break came in Laney junior varsity team where he was given the opportunity to play – he proved his worth, making 40- points or more in several games. After making successive impressions on scouts who came to watch him play, he was given a scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As a freshman, he was named ACC Freshman of the Year after he averaged 13.4 ppg on 53.4% shooting.
Also known as, MJ, his individual accolades include; six NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, 10 scoring titles (both all-time records), five MVP awards, 10 All-NBA First Team designations, nine All-Defensive First Team honors, 14 NBA All-Star Game selections, three All-Star Game MVP Awards, three steals titles, and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award.
He holds the NBA records for highest career regular-season scoring average (30.12 points per game) and highest career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per game).
He is also the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
