Tina Knowles may be a wellspring of wisdom, but when it comes to advice, her granddaughter Blue Ivy looks elsewhere. While promoting her memoir Matriarch on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the 71-year-old fashion icon beamed with pride over her daughters’ achievements — Beyoncé’s record-breaking 2025 Grammy wins and Solange’s trailblazing work as a producer.
She also gushed about how 13-year-old Blue Ivy takes after her, predicting a bright future ahead. But when asked if the teenager turns to her for guidance, Knowles admitted with a smile that Blue Ivy usually seeks wisdom from her mother.
“Her and her mother are really tight and so they don’t need me to give much advice,” Knowles told Hudson, before she added, “They tell me to mind my business.”
In October 2024, the businesswoman and mother shared uplifting words for moms while speaking exclusively to PEOPLE. She was honored at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards alongside other mothers who have raised influential stars. The event took place at The Times Square EDITION in New York City.
“I feel like the teenage years are the most difficult, but it will get better and you get what you put in,” she said, adding, “That’s what I truly believe. The more you put into your kids, the more love and care and support you give them, the more you get out of it.”
During her speech, the matriarch reflected on her journey as a mother during her speech, with Beyoncé in the audience showing her support.

“I’ve been so blessed in my life to do many things. I’ve had many careers, but I’ve always said that the best job that I’ve ever had is being a mother,” Knowles said. “I’ve had the privilege of raising and helping to raise four daughters… two that were born to me and two that were a gift to me from God. You know, I was somewhat of a rebellious teen and a young adult, and I didn’t always follow the rules, but the day that I became a mother, I decided that this was one thing that I wouldn’t screw up.”
