Thriving ancient African cities that went extinct after contact with Europeans

Surame

Surame was located in Nigeria and had its heyday in the 1500s.

The walls still standing in the now defunct city indicate a well-thought-out housing area; the center of the city shows that some buildings were two stories tall.

The materials used to erect walls in the city is stone and tsokuwa which is laterite gravel.
