Chris Ofili

Chris Ofili, CBE

Currently residing in Trinidad and Tobago, internationally recognized painter Chris Ofili was born in Manchester to Nigerian parents. Known for including elephant dung in his paintings, Chris received the prestigious Turner Prize in 1998 for his works, making it the first time a painter had won the £20,000 prize since 1985. His works are highly sought after; his Oregna portrait, which won him the Turner Prize was sold for a record £1.8 million. His Holy Virgin Mary artwork was also sold for £2.9 million by art collector David Walsh. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2017 for services to art.

Fun Fact: He was the best man to British-Ghanaian architect Sir David Adjaye on his wedding day.
