Haiti
Haiti has the highest HIV prevalence in the region at 150,000 in 2016, an increase from 130,000 people in 2005. In 2016, the country had 7900 new infections and 4600 Aids-related deaths. The populations with the highest number of infections are sex workers, gay men and men who have sex with men and prisoners.
Addressing the HIV pandemic became challenging following the 2010 earthquake and the 2016 Hurricane Matthew, which rendered accessibility to anti-retroviral drugs difficult.
