Dogon villages for the masked festivals
The highly revered Dogon masks are worn to mark occasions throughout the year as a way to connect the afterlife and earth. One of the most popular masked dance rituals is the “dama, performed to honour and facilitate the passing of a deceased person according to customs. Without the “dama” mask dance, the Dogon believe the deceased cannot transition to the afterlife in peace.
