6. ‘Mezez Alew’ by Aster Aweke (Ethiopian)

In this soothing melody, Aster Aweke is celebrating love, loyalty, and interdependence between lovers. From the album Enenoralen Gena, meaning “we shall live,” the song also advises people to practice safe sex and to protect themselves from HIV. It was released in the late-’90s.
