3. The Biloko Spirits

Also known as “Eloko,” Biloko is a kind of dwarf-like creature that is believed to reside in the tropical forests of ancient Zaire, which is modern-day Democratic Republic of Congo. The Mongo-Nkundo people believe that these creatures are the spirits of their dead ancestors who haunt the forest because they have scores to settle with the living.

Locals say that the Biloko spirits live in the darkest parts of the rain forest in central DRC, jealously and viciously guarding their possessions and wildlife. Only the fearless hunters are said to survive a hunting trip in this part of the forest, and for these hunters to succeed, they have to possess strong magic, without which they would come out empty-handed.
