Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will no longer receive Secret Service protection after President Donald Trump rescinded a security extension she had been granted by the Biden administration, senior officials confirmed Friday.
Traditionally, vice presidents receive government protection for six months after leaving office, while presidents are guarded for life.
At Harris’ request, then-President Joe Biden quietly approved an extension beyond the standard window. That move stretched her protection to 18 months, through July 2026. But Trump has now revoked the arrangement, with her detail set to end on Monday.

The decision comes just weeks before Harris begins a 15-stop international book tour promoting her memoir 107 Days, which recounts her brief 2024 presidential campaign.

“Another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation,” said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who vowed to coordinate with Gov. Gavin Newsom to ensure Harris’ safety.
The Secret Service recently assessed Harris’ risk profile and found no credible threats, officials said in a report. Still, security experts warn that ending her detail in such a polarized climate could heighten risks.
Trump has previously stripped rivals and critics of protection, including John Bolton and members of Biden’s family, while continuing extended coverage for his own relatives.
