Uganda’s Museveni takes female bodyguard – Gaddafi style

Uganda’s president is following the footsteps of ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi by doing away with his male bodyguard and going for a female replacement.

Yoweri Museveni on Saturday showed up at the commissioning of the Busia one-stop border post with the female bodyguard, otherwise known as his new Aide-de-Camp (ADC).

As the Ugandan Commander-in-chief, Museveni’s new female bodyguard will be his personal assistant.

At the launch of the one-stop border post, the ADC, being a military officer, was seen in her ceremonial uniform standing behind the president. She dispensed her duty with so much confidence, the Nairobi News reported.

The choice of Museveni’s female ADC is a first in East Africa.

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was the only African leader to have a circle of female bodyguards, who were handpicked by himself.

Meanwhile, Museveni was with Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta at the launch of the Busia one-stop border post. The border post is to enhance efficiency at the Kenya-Uganda border and improve efficiency in immigration clearance. It is also to facilitate the movement of goods and people.

The border post worth $12 million (Shs44 billion) was constructed by the cross-border business advisory organization, Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) with funding from UK Department of International Development (DFID) and the Global Affairs, Canada.

It has combined the traditionally two-stop borders into one. It has offices and space for immigration processes and verification. It also comprises cold rooms and warehouses for the goods traded across the border.
