After being quoted as saying he was once Beyoncé’s ‘babysitter’ before she became famous, Usher has come out to clarify the comment.
He opened up to Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay on January 31, 2024, that Daryl Simmons had a group named The Dolls who had come to Atlanta for the first time, and that was before Destiny’s Child grew to become a well-known music group.
Usher explained that he was somehow assigned a supervisory role over them when the group met in the house he was living in at the time.

“I think I looked over them while they [were] doing something in the house; I had to watch over ’cause I was like the, you know, the authority ’cause I guess I was the teenager at the time. [I was] making certain that they didn’t, you know, get in no trouble in the house at the time,” he said.
Usher went on to say that at that time Beyoncé had a talent and also a brilliance and a much different brightness, so he wasn’t surprised she became a global music icon.
“[It’s] really great for my sister, to see that she’s done so amazing and continue to thrive and just get bigger and better,” Usher gushed.
“Whether it’s musically or in her life or creativity, all of it, man.”
Last summer, Usher, 45, caused a stir when he revealed that he chaperoned the Cuff It singer, 42, when they were both younger.
Usher, who has won eight Grammy awards, appeared as the lead in Beyoncé’s music video for Naughty Girl in 2003.
They also collaborated on Love in This Club Pt. II which was released as the second single for Usher’s fifth studio album, Here I Stand.
Usher is set to take on his biggest stage yet during the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show on February 11, 2024.
