America’s ABC News has released a video that shows Jamaica’s reggae star, Buju Banton, tasting what appears to be cocaine. The clip which is less than a minute long shows Banton looking on as another man was unsealing a package.
The short clip also shows Buju taking a lick from his finger then saying, “I like it”, after the man who opened the package, referred to as “Johnson”, asked Banton, “Do you like?”
According to the American network, its appeal to a federal judge to have the footage released was accepted. For years, United States officials demanded that the undercover video from Banton’s last meeting with the informant stay under seal.
Buju Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, is only months away from being released from an American prison where he has been serving time for drug trafficking charges.
The Grammy-winning reggae star was convicted in 2011 for three counts of cocaine trafficking and sent to prison for 10 years.
Despite his long absence in the industry, Buju enjoys a loyal following on the outside. At a press briefing on the Love and Harmony Cruise in March, it was announced that his first gig after being released could be in Trinidad and Tobago on April 22, 2019.
Buju Banton’s official release date is set for December 8, 2018, and will be deported to Jamaica
