Wendy Williams has forgiven her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., for allegedly mishandling her finances amid her ongoing guardianship battle.
A health care advocate for Williams confirmed the reconciliation, as the former talk show host, now 60, continues to navigate her legal and medical challenges.
Williams was placed under guardianship in 2022 and later revealed her dementia diagnosis in 2023, according to PEOPLE. The financial dispute gained public attention when Wells Fargo froze her accounts in early 2022, following claims from her adviser that she was of “unsound mind.”

Hunter Jr. reportedly withdrew a significant sum from her account while serving as her power of attorney, raising red flags at Wells Fargo. The bank subsequently petitioned a New York court, leading to Williams being placed under temporary financial guardianship.
While not specifying any names, that bank later said in court filings that it froze the funds because “Wells Fargo has strong reason to believe that [Williams] is the victim of undue influence and financial exploitation.”
It said it reached that conclusion based on “reports of the financial advisor, who has recently witnessed telltale signs of exploitation, including [Williams]’s own expressed apprehensions” and from “other independent third parties who know [Williams] well and share these concerns.”
Monterroso recently told PEOPLE: “What the misconception is, what people have to understand is that Wendy told the world now that this happened three years ago.”
“So that’s something that they were able to get through. That will always be her son, unconditional love. And that’s pretty much, it was big news to everybody,” Monterroso said. “But again, this happened three years ago.”
Williams recently reunited with her son during a trip to Florida to celebrate her father’s birthday.
“He was there. And that’s the last part. But I do know that she continued to communicate with him. And that’s her honey bunny,” she said.
In Lifetime’s Where Is Wendy Williams? documentary, Hunter Jr. denied allegations of mishandling his mother’s finances, stating she approved all financial decisions while in his care and has always had an extravagant spending style. Details of Williams’ current financial holdings however remain undisclosed.
“I’ve never taken [money] without her consent,” said Hunter Jr. in the documentary.
Williams continues to deny claims of mental incapacity after being hospitalized following a welfare check on March 10. She stated on Good Day New York that she “passed” a mental competency test “with flying colors.”
Her advocate, Ginalisa Monterroso, told PEOPLE that Williams is eager for a jury to decide on the termination of her guardianship after further evaluations.
Williams’ guardianship trial, which is yet to be scheduled, will proceed after additional evaluations by an independent neurologist, according to her advocate.
