Mauritania

It does not matter that slavery was outlawed in Mauritania 37 years ago, the practice continues to date.

Many children are born as slaves and remain that way for the rest of their lives.

Slavery in Mauritania was born out of the Arab slave concept. The Haratins – dark skinned Mauritanians are considered of lower stature as compared to their Arab Berber counterparts.
