Denzel Washington is widely regarded as one of the most talented and influential actors in Hollywood. With a career spanning over four decades, the 69-year-old has starred in various films and displayed his acting prowess by portraying a variety of characters.
But Washington in an interview with Empire magazine to promote the upcoming Gladiator 2 movie seemingly hinted at retirement as he said he has just a few films to make. The two-time Oscar winner, who stars in the Ridley Scott-directed Gladiator sequel, did not, however, disclose when he’ll actually be retiring.
“There are very few films left for me to make that I’m interested in, and I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and I was tremendously inspired by Ridley,” the Training Day actor said in reference to Scott.
Washington and Scott already have a professional relationship as the pair worked together on the 2007 movie American Gangster. “We had a great go-round the first go-round and here we are,” Washington said. “He’s engaged. He’s excited about life and his next film. He’s an inspiration. We should all want to feel like that at 86.”
Scott also touched on the Gladiator sequel, revealing that “it’s the best thing I’ve ever made. One of the best things. I’ve made a few good ’uns.”
Gladiator 2 is scheduled to hit the theatres on November 22. In the movie, Washington portrays the role of Macrinus, a wealthy powerbroker who “runs a gladiator training stable”, Gazettely reported. The movie also stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nielsen.
