On Father’s Day, some people receive warm wishes and perhaps gifts of appreciation, but one Jackson father received two recognitions.
Jackson selected Nicholas Brown, a father of three, as Father of the Year. Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3 councilman, presented the award.
Brown told WLBT, “I have received the honor of Father of the Year, and to me it means that all our hard work as a family is being recognized not only throughout our family members and friends, but throughout the city.”
His boys, known as the “Boss Brothers,” have always been by his side. Brown and his family have influenced the lives of many people in their community with their books “Boss Brothers,” and “Credit Kings,” which teach children how to save money and entrepreneurship.
“Our primary focus is to make a positive impact,” Brown said. “Like we see the conditions of our communities and we understand that once you understand how to read and provide for yourself, you can actively do things on your own to make an impact and to make something constructive happen.”
Brown’s oldest son, Nicholas Brown Jr., responded to hearing his father receive this honor. He said, “He’s been doing this for years for a long time. He’s now just been recognized by the city and everything that he’s been doing. So like, I’m glad you get recognized for it.”
Brown reveals that his constant presence has been essential to raising his boys and that this is one way to leave a lasting impression on your kids.
Even though Father’s Day is a day to honor fathers, Brown said that the best benefit of being a parent is getting to see the legacy he will leave behind.
He remarked, “I get to see my future. Our main thing that we’re instilling in them, in addition to being able to be self-sufficient, is to take care of themselves. But to know that what we’re doing is not just for them, it’s for their children, their children’s children.”
