The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has issued a news release stating that it has arrested Sidney Bryant, a woman who allegedly robbed a bank in West Macon while carrying a little child.
According to a previous news release, Bryant arrived at the Robins Financial Credit Union on Log Cabin Drive with the kid at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The sheriff’s office reported that the child was dressed as Spider-Man and was wearing a black sweatshirt over it.
The 37-year-old woman allegedly handed a note to a bank teller, demanding money and claiming to be armed, according to the press release. After receiving an unspecified sum of money, she made her way out of the bank, got into a white Nissan Maxima, and headed south on Log Cabin Drive.
“The police turned me around at the door,” Barbara Stinson, who arrived soon after the robbery, told 13WMAZ. “They told me I couldn’t come in. So I just know it was a robbery, so I just went to the teller (ATM) and just left.”
The bank responded to the robbery by putting notices on its doors announcing that it was closed because of an emergency, but that clients may still use the ATM outside.
In an update later, deputies were called to a residence on the 4300 block of West Highland Drive. There, they located and took Bryant, a resident of Macon, into custody.
According to the sheriff’s office, Bryant was brought to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and is being held without bond. She faces charges of armed robbery, cruelty to children in the first degree and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
According to the press release, the child was found during Bryant’s arrest and is safe.
The BSO noted that the investigation is still in progress.
