Dominica, the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles, was formed by visible geothermal-volcanic activities. Gaining its independence from British rule in 1978, it joins a host of islands discovered by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century.
It celebrates its independence every 3rd November. Famously known as the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean” due to its environment, the island has lush mountains, rain forests and it is home to rare plants, animals and bird species.
With an economy driven by agriculture, the island is highly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.
