The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have launched their yet to be named production company under the banner of giant streaming platform Netflix. The multi-year deal with Netflix is for various projects meant to diversify the industry and create content that inspires and gives hope.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” said Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us,” they continued.

The Netflix multi-year deal follows the recent publication of Finding Freedom, a book about the couple’s life in the Royal Family. However, the pair are determined to be trailblazers in their new venture together and are focused on impacting lives positively.

In a statement, they said, “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.”

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world … as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens. We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action”.

According to Deadline, the deal includes documentaries, features, documentaries, children’s programming, and scripted series. The pair are set to star in a few documentaries although Meghan called it quits with acting after the season finale in 2019 of her hit USA Network drama Suits.

Currently, some projects are already in the works under the deal which include an animated series that celebrates women and a docuseries.

The documentary Rising Phoenix about Paralympics premiered last week on Netflix and the Duke makes an appearance in it. It is said that he worked closely with the filmmakers of the documentary.

There have been meetings between the duo and some traditional media companies and streamers about another mega deal. According to sources, it could be worth $150 million when things are finalized.

Prince Harry and Meghan moved their life from the Royal spotlight and settled in California with their son. Currently, their focus is to spotlight the many voices behind and in front of the camera. They are also committed to focus on representation and diversify their hiring processes as they hire staff for their production company.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said, “Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership.

“We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”
