“While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last.” Vice president-elect of the United States, Kamala Harris, a new entrant on Forbes world’s most powerful women of 2020 list, spoke these words after it was apparent the Democratic party had won the elections. These powerful words are likely to resonate with every woman whose goal is to see women excel in their chosen fields.

2020 has been a particularly difficult year for many especially since every country across the globe was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Leaders, especially women leaders in politics, entertainment, finance, and technology, used their platforms to address the many issues their fellow women and the world at large faced in this tumultuous year.

For the Forbes 17th annual most powerful women list, the women cut across different sectors. There are heads of state, entertainers, politicians, and CEOs who have earned a place on the 2020 list.

There were 11 Black women who made the cut this year and here are the top five.
