Rapper T.I. is teaming up with renowned hip-hop scholar Dr. Melva K. Williams to teach a course called the “Business of Trap Music” at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta this fall.
Trap Music is a sub-genre of hip-hop music that has been embraced all over the world even though its effect is not widely known.
Clark Atlanta University is, therefore, partnering with the Grammy award-winning rapper and HBCU advocate Williams to bring an understanding of the origin, culture and business of trap music to the University.

In a statement, T.I. said: “HBCUs have a vital role in our community and have managed to withstand even while being some of the most under-resourced institutions,” he said. “Our national HBCUs continue to underscore the fact that we have always had to do more with less. I am excited to be partnering with Clark Atlanta University in my hometown – Atlanta.
“I applaud their innovative approach to ensuring their students are educated beyond the traditional textbook curriculum. I am honored to lend my voice and unique experiences to the betterment of today’s young people and to do my part to lift the legacy of historically Black colleges and universities across the nation.”
The rapper and businessman recently joined protesters on the streets of Atlanta following the death of Rayshard Brooks at the hands of the police this month.
Clark Atlanta University also announced that it will be providing a scholarship offer from the HBCU to each of Brooks’ four children when they are ready for college.
