During a recent appearance on the Sherri daytime talk show, veteran singer and actress Jasmine Guy revealed she allowed rapper Tupac to stay in her home after he was shot in New York in 1994.
Per PEOPLE, the 61-year-old told host Sherri Shepherd that she accommodated Tupac because he wanted to stay in a safe location in the wake of the shooting. Guy and Tupac met when he made a cameo on the sitcom television series, A Different World.
“Well, the development was after the shooting in New York,” Guy told the host on Thursday. “First of all, I was hanging out with Tupac because he was good friends with Jada [Pinkett Smith]. We were always hanging out after the show.”

Guy and Pinkett Smith reportedly made their way to the hospital to visit Tupac after he was shot. But the rapper had left when they arrived. “He didn’t feel safe there. He did just get shot,” the Grey’s Anatomy actress said.
“He felt like a sitting duck. And because I had a low profile and they didn’t know we were friends… It kinda felt like The Diary of Anne Frank because I couldn’t tell anybody that he was there.”
Guy said Tupac remained in her home for a few weeks as he recovered from the wounds, adding that the California Love rapper’s family also joined them. “Everyone was in that one room,” she recalled.
Guy also said she informed Tupac’s family that if they’re “gonna keep it peaceful, everyone has to leave by 10 p.m.’ And that lasted about two days.” “‘You don’t understand. We’re the Shakurs. We’re gonna show you how to have a family life,'” the late rapper’s family replied.
“It was fun, other than the stress of it,” she added.
Despite surviving the 1994 shooting, Tupac fell victim to another shooting – this time ending fatal – in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. He succumbed to his injuries on September 13. In September last year, former gang member Duane “Keefe D” Davis was arrested and charged in connection with Tupac’s murder.
