The Pastor incites a crowd against the girl.

In “The Cursed Ones,” a young girl is blamed for a spate of bad luck in her village. Her situation reaches a dangerous climax, though, when the village pastor not only cites her as the cause of the misfortune but also encourages the community to efface their afflictions with her exorcism and death.

On why he decided to make the film Yeboa, who has also directed “Nana Means King” and “Mercy,” says, “Right now as we are talking, some poor kids are actually being accused of witchcraft in Africa and somebody has to do something about it.”

Yeboa further explained that he sees witchcraft and its targeting of children as his personal responsibility.

“And as a filmmaker, I think I have a responsibility to actually shed light on this issue so that the world can do something about it.”

“The Cursed Ones” is currently being shown at the Royal African Society Film Festival in London.
