Dia Nash, daughter of Niecy Nash, recently disclosed that she used a fake last name at the start of her acting career to avoid perceptions of nepotism. She wanted to prove her skills independently during her first audition.

Despite this, Dia Nash noted that her mother, known for her role in “Walk of Shame,” has always supported her. She said of her first audition, “I think I used a fake last name”, adding “I want to do this as me.” The actress shared with People that the name didn’t last very long, saying, “After that, I just kept it because my last name just sounds so nice.”

Dia Nash is best known for her role as Sandra Smith in “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and has also appeared as Dr. Jamie Ryan in “Never Have I Ever.”Dia Nash also addressed her mother Niecy Nash’s stance on nepotism in a recent interview, reflecting on Niecy Nash’s comments to Business Insider about wanting her children to earn roles based on their skills.

Niecy Nash, known for her role in “Beauty,” emphasized that people “don’t have to do my kids a favor.”

Dia Nash admitted she was initially unaware of the nepotism narrative in Hollywood but recognized her mother’s desire for her children to achieve success independently.

Dia Nash recalled her mother’s key career advice was for her to “Trust your gift, trust the things that you feel like you’re led to do, and then everything else will fall in line.”

Meanwhile, Dia’s new film “Sister Wife Murder,” in which she stars as Chloe, premiered on Lifetime on July 13, 2024.
